Max pulled free of Todd’s body, which was good because Todd was scrambling to get back to his feet. That was Colten screaming like that! He was close by!

Todd pushed himself off the bed, not exactly as fast as he would like to be because of the extra weight, but Max grabbed him and held him back.

“No! I need to get to him!”

“He’s okay,”

“No he’s not!”

“Let me go and see. Cover yourself up and I will go and see. All right?”

It almost wasn’t all right. Todd wanted to go and he wanted to go right now. He had to see Colten. Had to make sure he was all right. It sounded like the other man was flipping out in the hallway.

Max had to grip his shoulders a little tighter. “Todd, listen to me, you are pregnant. You might rush out there and someone could get the wrong idea. I don’t want you or the pup getting hurt, all right?”

Todd blinked, and he came right out of it. Jesus, had he really almost forgotten about his pup? His hands went to his stomach. He could trip and fall, or someone could push him by accident, anything could happen. The need to protect his young outweighed going out there to see his cousin. He didn’t know how to feel about that. “You’re right. Okay, I’m fine. Please, just go help him,” Todd begged.

Max nodded, turned, and rushed out of the room.
